Understanding the Impact of CrowdStrike Outage on SolarWinds Platform

In the wake of the recent CrowdStrike outage, we understand the concerns and potential impacts such events can have on SolarWinds customers. Our commitment to transparency and support during these times remains unwavering.

What Happened?

CrowdStrike, a critical component of cybersecurity for many organizations around the world, reported an outage on July 19 that inadvertently affected various services and platforms, including our own SolarWinds® Platform. Specifically, customers utilizing high availability (HA) within the Hybrid Cloud Observability platform have reported issues to our Support teams.

Impact on SolarWinds Internal Systems

SolarWinds internal systems were not affected by the CrowdStrike incident. The issues reported were a residual impact from the CrowdStrike outages, and as we've spoken with customers who have reached out about these issues, sentiment has been generally positive, acknowledging that these were environmental issues beyond our control.

SolarWinds Response

Based on customer inquiries, our teams acted swiftly to provide a knowledge base article for general awareness and to address the most common problem seen from the CrowdStrike issue. You can find the article here.

As outlined in the knowledge base article, some customers have experienced stability issues due to unexpected shutdowns of their SolarWinds Platform component hosts (main poller, additional pollers, web server, database, etc.). Once the environment has been fully recovered and all servers are rebooted, the SolarWinds Platform environment will recover gracefully.
